Happy Wanderers hike Long Cove Preserve in Searsport
Join Coastal Mountains Land Trust and Maine Health’s Community Health program for a Happy Wanderers Hike, Thursday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m., at the Long Cove Preserve in Searsport. This preserve features 2.4 miles of moderate hiking on a loop trail with multiple habitat types hosting an abundance of wildlife, according to CMLT, in a news release.
"The early successional vegetation species, from a recent timber harvest, has created a scrub-shrub habitat, which often boasts excellent birding conditions," said CMLT.
Feel free to bring binoculars, if you have them, and the Land Trust will have pairs to share, according to the release.
Coastal Mountains Land Trust’s volunteer naturalist, Bindy Pendleton, will be leading this social hike and sharing her local lore and ecological insights along the trail.
Bring water, warm layers, sturdy footwear for the conditions, boot grips, and binoculars, if you have them.
Directions: From Searsport, take Mt. Ephraim Road west (off Route 1). In 2.6 miles turn right onto Savery Road. Follow for 0.6 miles to the preserve parking lot on the right.
Happy Wanderers meet on the first Thursday of each month. Hikes range in location from Rockport to Stockton Springs.
"Each outing is led by a Coastal Mountains and Community Health staff member, with exceptional local naturalists periodically leading the walks throughout the year," said CMLT. "We hope you can join us."
